WALWORTH, Wis (Civic Media) – Republican lawmaker Tyler August has announced his bid for re-election to the Wisconsin State Assembly. August, who currently represents District 32, will be seeking a two-year term in the 31st Assembly District, where he now resides.

With August’s announcement, the race for the Wisconsin State Assembly in the 31st District now has two candidates. Ellen Schutt from Clinton is the incumbent and is also running as a Republican. The district’s performance heavily favors Republicans, with a 63.2% Republican voting history according to WisPolitics.com.

Tyler August has been serving as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing District 32, since 2011. He ran for re-election in 2022 and has served as the state House majority leader since January 3, 2023.

In his announcement, August expressed his excitement to kick off his campaign and continue representing the people of Walworth County, saying he’s also eager to meet and represent new friends in Rock County. August highlights what he calls a strong record on reducing the tax burden, responsible budgeting, and improving election integrity. “We need to continue to push forward with our pro-taxpayer, pro-family agenda and continue to block the liberal progressive agenda that will ruin our state.”

Ellen Schutt assumed office on January 3, 2023.  In her campaign announcement, Schutt said she’s committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities by standing with law enforcement and first responders and says she believes in reducing the tax burden and fighting inflationary spending to alleviate the financial struggles of Wisconsinites.

The 31st Assembly District covers a part of Walworth County, including Elkhorn, Delevan, and Darien, plus part of Rock County, including Clinton.
